Daft Barnsley Burglar Caught After Breaking Into Pharmacy Wearing High-Vis Clothing

A burglar in Barnsley has been described as "daft" after targeting a local pharmacy while wearing highly visible reflective clothing, making it exceptionally easy for police officers and CCTV operators to track his movements.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Officers were alerted to a break-in at a local pharmacy. According to reports, the suspect had bypassed the security shutters to gain access to the premises, intending to steal prescription medication and cash.

However, any hopes of a stealthy getaway were immediately dashed by the suspect's choice of attire. Security cameras captured the individual wearing a bright yellow "hi-vis" jacket, a wardrobe choice that stood out dramatically against the dark streets. South Yorkshire Police responded swiftly to the alarm and spotted the brightly clad suspect fleeing the scene. He was detained nearby following a brief pursuit.

A spokesperson for the police force commented on the arrest, highlighting that while burglary is a serious offence that causes significant distress and disruption to local businesses, the suspect's choice of high-visibility clothing certainly aided officers in making a quick arrest. The suspect remains in custody and is helping police with their enquiries.
