Detroit 'Jazz Cannabis' Dispensary Targeted in Multiple U-Haul Smash-and-Grabs; Teen Arrested in $100k Theft
DETROIT — A Detroit cannabis dispensary named “Jazz Cannabis” has been the target of a series of highly destructive break-ins and attempted thefts, raising concerns over security and crime targeting local businesses. The dispensary has been hit at least three separate times over a multi-month period.
The earliest major incident occurred in August 2024, when a Detroit-area teenager was arrested following a massive heist at the business. According to police, the suspect successfully stole approximately $100,000 worth of cannabis products and store merchandise before being apprehended by law enforcement.
Months later, in December 2024, thieves were caught on security cameras attempting a smash-and-grab by reversing a rented U-Haul truck directly through the storefront. The impact caused severe structural damage, though the perpetrators faced difficulties retrieving their target. The business was targeted yet again in March 2025, when another group of suspects slammed a U-Haul truck into the building in an attempt to breach the shop's security gates.
The owner of the dispensary expressed deep frustration, noting that the persistent nature of the crimes is taking a massive toll on operations and insurance costs. Local police are reviewing surveillance footage and working to determine if the consecutive incidents are linked to a single organized crime ring targeting dispensaries across the metro area.
