Dispensary on Sunset Strip targeted by burglars for ‘sixth or seventh time,’ manager says
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A cannabis dispensary situated along the iconic Sunset Strip was targeted by thieves once again, marking what the store's manager estimates to be the sixth or seventh time the location has been burglarized since its opening.
The incident occurred at the Urbn Leaf dispensary, located at 8477 Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. According to surveillance footage, a group of suspects arrived in the early morning hours, shattered the front glass entrance, and quickly swept through the retail floor to grab merchandise and cash.
A Recurring Nightmare for Local Businesses
The manager of the dispensary spoke of the mounting frustration and financial toll that these repeated break-ins place on the business. "It feels like we're being targeted constantly," the manager said. "This is the sixth or seventh time we've had to replace windows, clean up shattered glass, and deal with stolen inventory. It's incredibly frustrating for our team."
Despite heavy security measures, including reinforced glass, alarm systems, and security guards during business hours, the quick-strike nature of the burglaries makes them difficult to prevent. The suspects are typically inside the store for less than two minutes before fleeing in waiting getaway vehicles.
Calls for Federal Banking Reform and Better Protection
Industry advocates point out that cannabis dispensaries are uniquely vulnerable to property crimes due to federal banking restrictions, which force many businesses to operate primarily in cash. While Urbn Leaf and other local dispensaries have invested heavily in private security, owners argue that more support is needed from local law enforcement and federal policymakers to protect the legal cannabis sector.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is reviewing surveillance video from the incident to identify the suspects and determine if they are linked to other recent retail burglaries in West Hollywood.
