‘Don’t move, take it off’: Suspect accused of robbing man at gunpoint at Miami restaurant

MIAMI, Florida — Police have arrested a 29-year-old suspect in connection with a terrifying armed robbery that occurred inside a Miami restaurant and smoke shop earlier this month, officials confirmed.

According to an arrest affidavit released by the Miami Police Department, the suspect, identified as DeAngelo Wright, was taken into custody following the incident on March 13, 2026. The armed robbery took place at the U Save Fish & Chicken and Smoke Shop, located at 6900 NW Seventh Ave. near Miami’s Little River neighborhood.

The victim recounted the frightening encounter to responding officers, stating that he had arrived at the establishment with his father to order food. While waiting, they noticed a man inside the store staring intently at them. The suspect briefly left the premises, but returned moments later wearing a black ski mask.

Investigators stated that Wright approached the victim and pulled out a black semi-automatic assault rifle that had been concealed in his pants. Pointing the high-powered weapon directly at the victim, Wright demanded his jewelry, uttering the chilling command, “Don’t move, take it off.”

A struggle ensued as Wright tried to forcibly rip a gold Cuban link bracelet off the victim's wrist, but he was unsuccessful. Fearing for his life, the victim took off his gold Cuban link chain, the bracelet, and a gold ring decorated with a lion's face, handing them over to the gunman. Wright then fled the scene in a black 2009 Hyundai Sonata.

Detectives were able to track down Wright using surveillance footage that captured the vehicle's license plate. Additionally, an employee at the store recognized Wright as a regular customer, enabling police to make a positive identification and execute the arrest.
