Dramatic 90-Minute Police Chase Ends in Arrests After ATM Heist at D.C. Liquor Store

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A brazen smash-and-grab ATM heist at a local liquor store triggered a massive, 90-minute police pursuit that spanned across the District line and into neighboring Maryland communities on Thursday.

The Heist

Police reports indicate that suspects utilized a heavy vehicle to breach the entrance of a D.C. liquor store in the early hours. Once inside, they secured a free-standing Automated Teller Machine (ATM), dragged it into the bed of a waiting getaway vehicle, and fled the scene at high speed.

Helicopter-Assisted Pursuit

Responding officers spotted the suspect vehicle, initiating a pursuit. Due to the high speeds and reckless driving of the suspects, the Metropolitan Police Department deployed helicopter support to track the vehicle from the air, minimizing the danger to pedestrians and motorists on the ground.

"The coordination between our air support and ground units was critical in maintaining visual contact with the suspects as they fled across multiple jurisdictions," law enforcement officials remarked.

After a grueling hour and a half, the pursuit concluded in Maryland where officers successfully intercepted the vehicle, recovered the stolen ATM, and took multiple suspects into custody.
