East Carolina University Student Charged Following Destructive Break-In at Greenville Coffee Shop

GREENVILLE, North Carolina โ€” A popular local coffee shop in Greenville has temporarily closed its doors to the public after a destructive break-in early Monday morning. Local authorities have arrested and charged an East Carolina University (ECU) student in connection with the incident, which left the establishment with significant property damage.

Greenville Police Department officers responded to an active alarm at the coffee shop located near the university campus. Upon arrival, officers discovered shattered glass entryways and signs of forced entry. A search of the surrounding area led to the apprehension of the suspect, who was subsequently identified as an active student enrolled at East Carolina University.

Charges and Damages

The student is facing several charges, including felony breaking and entering, larceny, and injury to real property. The motives behind the break-in remain under investigation, and police have not released information on whether any store funds or valuable merchandise were stolen during the heist.

The owner of the establishment expressed frustration but gratitude toward the swift response of the Greenville Police Department. "We are deeply saddened by this event, especially since it involves a member of our student community. Our primary focus right now is cleaning up the damage, supporting our staff, and reopening as soon as it is safe to do so," the business owner said in a statement.

"The local coffee shop is a staple of our campus life, and seeing it targeted is incredibly disheartening for students and residents alike."

The name of the student and details regarding their bond status have not yet been fully disclosed to the public pending a formal court appearance. Local news reports that the business is expected to remain closed for at least 24 to 48 hours to complete cleanup operations and repair structural damage to the store's facade.
