Edinburgh Service Stations Targeted in Spate of Robberies and Gang Violence
Communities in Edinburgh have been left on high alert following a series of serious incidents targeting local service stations. Police Scotland have launched intensive investigations into two separate disturbances: an armed robbery and a subsequent violent gang attack using fireworks, both of which have raised significant security concerns across the City of Edinburgh.
Armed Robbery at Petrol Station
The first incident occurred in late October when an armed male suspect entered a local service station, threatening staff and demanding cash. The lone employee on duty was confronted by the weapon-brandishing individual, who ordered them to hand over contents from the register. While no physical injuries were reported, the worker was left deeply shaken by the encounter. Detectives are reviewing CCTV footage and seeking witnesses who may have spotted suspicious activity in the vicinity during the afternoon.
Calder Road Fireworks Chaos
Just over a week later, emergency services were called to Calder Road following reports of 'horrendous scenes' as a gang of youths targeted a petrol station with fireworks. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic environment with pyrotechnics being aimed directly at the service station forecourt, posing a catastrophic risk of fire or explosion. The anti-social behavior forced the temporary closure of local roads while police officers worked to disperse the mob and restore order. Local residents and politicians have condemned the reckless actions of the gang, calling for tougher enforcement against seasonal firework misuse.
Police Appeal for Information
Police Scotland are treating both incidents with high priority. Authorities are investigating potential links or patterns in localized petrol station disturbances and are appealing to the public for any dashcam footage or descriptions of the suspects involved in either incident.
