El Barco Mariscos Struck by Second Overnight Burglary in Noble Square

CHICAGO, IL — In what has become a frustratingly familiar pattern for business owners in Noble Square, the celebrated local seafood restaurant El Barco Mariscos was burglarized once again in the early morning hours. This latest break-in represents the second time the establishment has been targeted by commercial thieves within recent months, raising concern among neighborhood business owners about a rising tide of overnight property crime.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the incident occurred during the overnight hours, when offenders approached the restaurant located in the 1000 block of North Ashland Avenue. The suspects shattered a front glass window to gain entry to the building. Once inside, they quickly targeted the restaurant's cash registers, climbing over the bar counter and making off with a cash box and valuable assets before fleeing the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement.

El Barco Mariscos, known for its distinctive boat-shaped building and authentic Mexican seafood, is a staple of the West Town and Noble Square community. The recurring nature of these smash-and-grab burglaries highlights the challenges facing local dining venues. Area residents and community groups have expressed growing concern over public safety on Ashland Avenue, urging a stronger police presence during the overnight hours to deter organized crime crews targeting retail and restaurant corridors.

Chicago Police detectives are currently reviewing security footage from the restaurant and surrounding properties to identify the individuals involved. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Area Three Detectives.
