Homeowner defends family during violent burglary

According to an article published on 21 August 2025 by Liverpoolecho, a masked gang of six men forced their way into a private home in Selby, North Yorkshire. The intruders, who were armed with weapons including a crowbar, assaulted the father of two inside the property.

The homeowner, acting in self-defence to protect his partner and children, grappled with the attackers. During the struggle, he fatally stabbed one of the intruders. The remaining five men fled the scene in a getaway vehicle. North Yorkshire Police and ambulance services attended the property, but the injured man died at the scene.

Following a manhunt, all five surviving suspects were apprehended within 48 hours. They have since been sentenced to a total of 70 years in prison for aggravated burglary. The homeowner faced no criminal charges in connection with the death. The incident originally occurred in March 2022.
