Fatal Shootout Caught on Police Body-Cam Following Rochester Home Break-In

ROCHESTER, Minn. — Authorities have released body-worn camera footage detailing a fatal shootout between Rochester police officers and an armed burglary suspect following a home break-in report.

The incident began when residents of a local neighborhood reported an intruder attempting to force entry into a nearby home. Responding officers arrived quickly and located the suspect nearby. When officers attempted to make contact, the suspect drew a firearm and opened fire, leading to a shootout in which the suspect was fatally wounded.

The body-cam video, released by the department to maintain transparency, highlights the rapid escalation of the event and the immediate threats faced by responding officers. No police officers or bystanders were injured in the shootout.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting, which is standard procedure. The names of the involved officers have been placed on standard administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
