Fleeing Burglary Suspect Arrested After Hiding in Fresno Attic and Throwing Debris
FRESNO, California โ A burglary suspect's elaborate attempt to evade law enforcement ended with his arrest after he punched through a garage roof, climbed into the attic of a neighboring two-story home, and fell through the ceiling.
The incident began around 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, when Fresno Police officers responded to a reported burglary in progress at a detached garage in the 300 block of South Calaveras Street. Upon arrival, officers established a perimeter and quickly detained an adult female suspect outside the garage. However, a male suspect remained barricaded inside the structure.
Roof Escape and Attic Standoff
In a desperate attempt to escape, the male suspect punched a hole through the garage roof and climbed out. He ran to a nearby two-story residence, climbed up the back of the building, and forced his way into the attic by removing a swamp cooler. Officers quickly repositioned themselves on the roof of the home and surrounded the attic entry points.
From inside the attic, the suspect attempted to keep officers at bay by punching holes through the ceiling, throwing drywall debris, and assaulting responding officers and a police K-9. The standoff reached a sudden end when the suspect lost his footing and fell through the ceiling into the living area of the home, where officers immediately took him into custody. The suspect was treated for minor injuries and booked into jail on charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and assault on peace officers.
