Former Marlins Draft Pick Arrested After Break-In and Vandalism at Washington State Capitol

OLYMPIA, Wash. — A former Miami Marlins draft pick has been arrested and charged after a destructive break-in at the Washington State Capitol building in Olympia, where officials say he set flags on fire, tipped over iconic busts, and caused significant damage to a historic piano.

The incident unfolded early in the week when security personnel detected an intruder inside the legislative building. Upon investigating, state patrol officers discovered a trail of vandalism. The suspect had reportedly gained entry by breaking through a window and proceeded to vandalize several public areas. Among the damage, the suspect toppled several historic bronze busts of notable political figures and set fire to flags displayed within the building's hallways.

Furthermore, authorities confirmed that a historic piano, originally from Spokane and preserved as a significant cultural artifact within the Capitol, sustained severe damage during the rampage. Investigators are currently assessing the cost of restoring the instrument and the damaged historical sculptures.

State officials identified the suspect as a former professional baseball player who was previously drafted by the Marlins organization. The suspect was apprehended on-site by responding Washington State Patrol officers and was booked into the Thurston County Jail. He faces multiple felony charges, including burglary, malicious mischief, and reckless burning. Security protocols at the state Capitol complex are currently under review following the breach.
