Former Mizzou Basketball Player and Brother Arrested in Kansas City for Tulsa Armed Robbery
KANSAS CITY, Mo. โ A former University of Missouri basketball star and his brother are facing serious felony charges in Oklahoma after being arrested in Kansas City in connection with an armed robbery, court records show. The high-profile arrests have shocked local sports fans and the community alike.
Marcus Denmon, 34, who once electrified crowds as a guard for the Mizzou Tigers, and his brother, Malik Denmon, 29, were apprehended by Kansas City police officers in early March 2025. Following their arrest, a Jackson County judge signed an extradition order, clearing the way for both men to be transported to Tulsa County, Oklahoma, to face charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The Ambush and Investigation
According to court affidavits filed by the Tulsa Police Department, the incident took place on the morning of January 17, 2025. The victim, a Tulsa resident, was loading her vehicle in the parking lot of her apartment complex, preparing to drive to Kansas City for a bachelorette party. Investigators allege that the brothers ambushed the woman, brandished a firearm, and forced her to hand over a bag containing approximately $15,000 to $16,000 in cash, along with other high-value personal effects.
Detectives working the case recovered surveillance footage from the apartment complex showing a white Chevrolet Malibu fleeing the scene. A search of vehicle databases revealed the Malibu was a rental car. Investigators subpoenaed rental records, which showed the vehicle had been leased to Marcus Denmon. Law enforcement also tracked the brothers' financial transactions following the robbery. Financial records indicated multiple cash deposits totaling thousands of dollars were made at automated teller machines (ATMs) across Kansas City in the weeks following the Tulsa incident.
A Fallen Star
Marcus Denmon remains a legendary figure in Mizzou basketball history. During his tenure from 2008 to 2012, he helped lead the Tigers to two Elite Eight appearances and earned First-Team All-Big 12 honors in 2012. He was selected 59th overall in the 2012 NBA Draft by the San Antonio Spurs and went on to have a successful decade-long career playing in top-tier leagues across Europe and Asia.
Both Marcus and Malik Denmon are currently held in Missouri custody on a $50,000 bond each, pending their formal transfer to Oklahoma authorities. A court date in Tulsa has not yet been finalized, but if convicted, the brothers could face a maximum penalty of life in prison under Oklahoma law.
