Foster Avenue Commercial Burglary Spree: Chipotle and Tropical Smoothie Cafe Targeted

CHICAGO, IL — A commercial strip in the 4700 block of West Foster Avenue became the latest target of a brazen overnight burglary crew. Among the multiple businesses struck during the smash-and-grab spree were national food and beverage chains Chipotle Mexican Grill and Tropical Smoothie Cafe, both located in the same shopping complex.

According to police reports, the incidents occurred in the early morning hours, when a group of unidentified individuals arrived at the commercial center. The suspects utilized heavy objects to shatter the front glass entry doors of both the Chipotle and the adjacent Tropical Smoothie Cafe. Once inside the establishments, the intruders focused exclusively on the cash register systems, forcibly removing the cash boxes before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.

The Foster Avenue business corridor, which features several popular quick-service dining options, has seen increased traffic but is also vulnerable to mobile burglary crews. Security footage capturing the incident shows the speed at which the crew operates, completing the break-ins and escaping within minutes. Local operators are calling for increased patrols in the area and coordination with shopping center management to improve overnight illumination and surveillance.

Detectives from Area Five are currently analyzing video evidence and investigating whether this spree is connected to a larger network of restaurant burglaries across the North Side. No suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation remains open.
