Four Arrested After Stolen Kia Crashes into City News Cafe in Chicago Police Chase
CHICAGO, IL — Four individuals are in custody after a stolen Kia vehicle crashed directly into the City News Cafe on Cicero Avenue during a police pursuit. The incident, which occurred on Thursday, left the historic cafe with substantial property damage and caused significant traffic delays along the busy corridor.
According to the Chicago Police Department, officers spotted a stolen Kia and attempted to perform a traffic stop. The driver refused to pull over, initiating a brief police chase. During the pursuit, the driver lost control of the stolen vehicle, causing it to veer off Cicero Avenue and plow straight into the storefront of the City News Cafe, shattering windows and damaging the building's structural facade.
Following the crash, the four occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers quickly cordoned off the immediate area and apprehended all four suspects without further incident. Paramedics were called to assess the suspects and any bystanders for injuries, but no severe injuries were reported inside the cafe.
The City News Cafe, a popular local establishment, will require significant repairs before fully reopening. The incident highlights ongoing challenges related to the theft of Kia and Hyundai vehicles, which have seen a surge in recent years.
