Four arrested following electric bike theft in Bootle

Police intercept stolen bike sale in Bootle

According to Liverpoolecho, Merseyside Police arrested four individuals in Bootle on 30 January 2025 following an investigation into the sale of a stolen electric bike. The victim of a burglary in West Yorkshire had previously identified their stolen property listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

Officers arranged to meet the suspects at Church Walk in Bootle shortly before 6:15pm. Following the operation, an 18-year-old man from Crosby, a 39-year-old man from Netherton, and a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy from Bootle were arrested on suspicion of burglary, handling stolen goods, possession of drugs with intent to supply, and possession of an offensive weapon. All suspects remain in custody.

A subsequent search of a property in the Bootle area resulted in the recovery of two additional bikes and approximately ยฃ12,000 in cash. Detective Inspector Sara Lang praised the swift action of the officers involved. The incident is being addressed as part of Operation Gears, a campaign targeting the criminal use of electric bikes and off-road motorcycles. Authorities continue to urge the public to report any information regarding the storage of stolen vehicles.
