Four charged following residential burglaries
According to an article published on 17 April 2024 by the BBC, four Croatian nationals have been charged in connection with a series of high-value residential burglaries in the North East. The incidents included a break-in at the Darras Hall, Northumberland, home of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak on 4 April, where his car was stolen.
The BBC reports that other burglaries occurred at properties on Clayton Road in Jesmond and Woodlands Grove in Sunderland. Items taken during the series of crimes included cash, designer clothing, and jewellery valued at approximately ยฃ1 million. Some of the stolen property has since been recovered by police.
The four suspects, aged 23, 27, 31, and 42, were arrested in the West Midlands following an investigation by the North East Regional Organised Crime Unit and Northumbria Police. They are scheduled to appear at Bedlington Magistrates' Court. Detective Inspector Shaun Fordy stated that such crimes will not be tolerated in the region.
