Four Detained in Interstate Operation After Ram-Raiding SF Balboa Street Store for Lottery Tickets
Four individuals are in custody after a commercial burglary involving a ram-raid style break-in at a store on the 1600 block of Balboa Street in San Francisco's Richmond District on Tuesday night, September 17, 2024.
Late-Night Ram-Raid
At approximately 9:39 p.m., San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) officers responded to a burglary in progress. Investigators determined that the suspects had rammed a vehicleโdescribed as a truckโinto the store's facade to breach the building, causing major structural damage. The thieves targeted and stole a large quantity of state lottery tickets before speeding away in two getaway vehicles.
Multi-City Tracking and Oakland Arrests
SFPD plainclothes officers engaged in a robbery abatement operation monitored the getaway vehicles, tracking them across the Bay Bridge into Oakland. The Oakland Police Department joined the operation, disabling one of the vehicles.
Four suspects were arrested in a coordinated effort across both sides of the Bay:
- Enrique Johnson-Antunez (27) and Valerie Brinkmann (33) were apprehended by SFPD officers.
- Esteban Vasquez Lara and Elena Carlson were arrested by Oakland police officers while attempting to cash in the stolen lottery tickets at a business near 14th and Adeline Streets in Oakland.
The swift arrests showcase the close collaboration between Bay Area law enforcement agencies in combating retail theft rings.
