Hackney Man Admits High-Value Tool Burglary at Aberystwyth CEF Electrical Store

A London burglar is facing sentencing after admitting to a high-value break-in at a business in Aberystwyth, where he made off with nearly £30,000 worth of electrical tools. Christopher Cole, 48, of Hackney, pleaded guilty to commercial burglary at Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court following his arrest late last year.

Targeted Commercial Heist

The court heard that Cole drove from his home in London to Aberystwyth specifically to target the CEF Electrical outlet on the Glan Yr Afon Industrial Estate. The burglary took place between 3:00 PM on Sunday, September 29, and 7:15 AM on Monday, September 30, 2024. To gain entry, Cole shattered a glass window pane at the storefront and severed the security alarm cables to prevent a response from local authorities or security firms. He then loaded his vehicle with £29,000 to £30,000 worth of high-end power tools and electrical equipment.

Forensic and CCTV Evidence

The breakthrough in the Dyfed-Powys Police investigation came from a combination of forensic science and digital surveillance. Crime scene investigators recovered blood and DNA samples from the broken glass pane where Cole had forced entry. At the same time, automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and security cameras tracked Cole's car as it traveled across the country from London to Ceredigion. Surveillance footage placed his vehicle on the industrial estate at 11:30 PM on Sunday and again at 1:00 AM on Monday during the time the burglary occurred.

Guilty Plea and Remand

Cole went on the run but was tracked down and arrested in Rugby, Warwickshire, by Hampshire Police officers on November 19, 2025. Following his arrest, Cole was charged and appeared before Aberystwyth Magistrates' Court, where he formally entered a guilty plea to the burglary. Given the professional planning involved and the high value of the stolen goods, the magistrates referred the case to Swansea Crown Court for sentencing, where Cole remains in custody pending his sentencing hearing in early 2026.
