'He Stole from the Children': Otaku Sekai Owner Devastated After Pokรฉmon Card Theft on Park Ave.
WORCESTER, Mass. โ The owner of Otaku Sekai on Park Avenue has spoken out following a theft that he says targeted the heart of his community-focused business: children and young collectors.
During the weekend of October 11, 2025, an unidentified man entered the store and stole multiple binders of Pokรฉmon cards. The total value of the stolen merchandise is estimated at $3,000.
Targeting the Kids' Section
While high-end, locked showcases were left untouched, the thief focused his efforts on the open binders containing cards priced between $5 and $15. Store owner John Le explained that these cards were intentionally priced to be affordable for children who visit the shop with their families.
"He also stole from the children," Le said in an interview. "We keep those cards accessible and cheap so kids can come in with their pocket money and enjoy trading. Taking those binders directly impacts our youngest customers who look forward to coming here."
Support from the Community
Since the incident, local patrons and the Worcester gaming community have rallied around Otaku Sekai. Customers have offered to donate cards to help rebuild the store's inventory. Meanwhile, police are reviewing high-definition security footage showing the suspect's face and clothing, and are actively pursuing leads.
