High-End Lord Street Jewellers Targeted in Southport Theft Spate: Local Woman Arrested

A historic Southport jewellery store has been targeted in a spate of local thefts, leading to the arrest and charging of a local resident as police step up patrols in Sefton.

On Monday, April 13, 2026, valuable jewellery was stolen from the prestigious Henry Pidduck Jewellers located on Lord Street, Southport. The well-known establishment, a staple of Southport’s historic shopping district, was the scene of the incident which prompted immediate police action.

The following day, Tuesday, April 14, police officers patrolling the area spotted two women acting in suspicious circumstances at the exact same location on Lord Street. Officers intervened and detained both individuals for questioning.

Following investigations, Lindsay Hutchins, 38, of Leicester Street, Southport, was officially charged with theft in connection with the incident on Monday. Hutchins was subsequently remanded in custody and scheduled to appear before the Sefton Adult Remand Court on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

Sefton Area Commander Karl Baldwin commented on the force's response to town centre crime: “We are keenly aware of the harm burglary and theft can cause towards individuals and businesses, particularly in our town centres and shopping parks, which is why we’re treating it as a priority. The introduction of the Southport Town Centre Team and the launch of the Merseyside Anti-Social Behaviour Partnership are evidence of our commitment.”

Baldwin added that the force's new operating model has deployed additional neighbourhood policing officers to provide a faster and more effective response. “The smart police work in both of these arrests demonstrates the power of greater local knowledge, and the availability of our officers to tackle these issues,” he said.
