According to an article published by the Yorkshirepost on 3 February 2026, police have launched an investigation following a burglary at Dewsbury Town Hall. Authorities report that suspects gained entry to the building through the roof at approximately 8:15 pm on 1 February.

The burglars stole the historic mayoral chains, which are gold-plated and date back to 1897. Detective Inspector Divek Ubhi of Kirklees CID noted that the items hold significant cultural and historical value to the local community. West Yorkshire Police were alerted to the incident at 6:30 am on 2 February.

Kirklees Council officials have expressed their shock regarding the loss of these civic treasures and are cooperating fully with the ongoing police inquiry. Detectives are urging anyone with relevant information to contact West Yorkshire Police, quoting incident number 13260064393, or to provide details anonymously via Crimestoppers.
