Home burglary and attempted vehicle theft in Rogerstone

Residential burglary in Rogerstone

According to an article published on 6 May 2026 by Walesonline, a residential burglary occurred in Rogerstone, Newport, on 9 December 2024. Two individuals entered the property's utility room while the homeowners were in the living room watching television.

Walesonline reports that one of the victims heard a noise and discovered the intruders, who had taken keys to a Volkswagen Golf and a Volkswagen Transporter. The victim confronted the men as they attempted to drive the vehicles away, forcing them to flee the scene in a separate car. Michael Truman, 36, was later identified through DNA evidence found on the steering wheel of one of the vehicles. He subsequently pleaded guilty to burglary and attempted theft of a motor vehicle at Cardiff Crown Court and was sentenced to 40 months in prison.

The victims reported that the incident left them feeling significantly anxious and paranoid regarding their home security. The court heard that the couple has since struggled with the impact of the intrusion, which occurred while their child was sleeping upstairs.

Ensure all external doors and windows are kept locked, even when you are present inside the property.
