Violent burglary in Helmshore

According to an article published by the Lancashiretelegraph on 29 April 2026, police are investigating a home invasion in Helmshore that resulted in an elderly resident being hospitalized. Officers were called to a property on Moss Close in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, following reports of a break-in.

Lancashiretelegraph reports that intruders forced entry through the front door of the home. When the 85-year-old male resident confronted the individuals, he was assaulted, sustaining a head injury and cuts to his face. He remains in the hospital receiving treatment. His 86-year-old wife was present during the incident but was physically unharmed. The offenders reportedly fled the scene by smashing through the conservatory.

While the property sustained damage, it remains unclear if any items were stolen. Detective Sergeant Stu Peall described the incident as a deplorable offence. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information to contact the police on 101, quoting log 0126 of April 29. Residents in the area are also asked to review CCTV or doorbell camera footage from between 2:15 am and 3:15 am for any suspicious activity.
