Violent home invasion in Selby

According to an article published on 22 August 2025 by Thesun, a resident of Selby, North Yorkshire, was forced to defend his family during a violent home invasion. Thesun reports that a gang of six masked men broke into the property while the father, his partner, and their two young children were inside.

The intruders, armed with weapons including a crowbar, assaulted the father. During the struggle, the homeowner managed to obtain a knife and stabbed one of the attackers. Despite the homeowner’s attempts to provide aid, the intruder died at the scene. The remaining five suspects fled the property but were apprehended by North Yorkshire Police within 48 hours.

Following a trial, all five surviving members of the gang were convicted of aggravated burglary and sentenced to a combined total of 70 years in prison. The homeowner faced no charges, as authorities confirmed his actions were taken in self-defence to protect his family. North Yorkshire Police described the incident as a pre-meditated and distressing attack.
