Violent burglary in Newcastle

According to an article published on 13 March 2026 by Birminghammail, three men have been sentenced to a total of 28 years in prison following a violent home invasion in Newcastle. Craig Rogers, Lee Justice, and Lee Kinnell were convicted of aggravated burglary after targeting an elderly couple in their home.

The court heard that the perpetrators gained entry to the property by smashing through patio doors. Once inside, two of the men, wearing balaclavas and armed with an ice pick-style hammer and a machete, threatened the victims. The intruders reportedly laughed while issuing threats to the elderly woman and her pet dog. The victims, one of whom suffers from dementia, were left traumatized by the incident, which occurred in August 2023. The intruders stole various items of financial and sentimental value before fleeing the scene.

Recorder Tony Hawks noted that the crime was a planned, deliberate targeting of vulnerable individuals. Rogers, Justice, and Kinnell were subsequently sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court for their roles in the offence.
