Homeless Man Pleads Guilty to Boxing Day Burglary in Bath

A homeless man has appeared in court and admitted to committing a burglary in Bath on Boxing Day. Robert Jenkins, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to charges related to a break-in that occurred on December 26, 2023, targeting a property in the historic Somerset city.

According to court reports, the incident took place during the festive period when many residents were away or celebrating with families. Police were alerted to the break-in and subsequent investigations quickly led to the identification and arrest of Jenkins.

Appearing before magistrates, Jenkins admitted to entering the premises as a trespasser and stealing items. The prosecution detailed the impact of the burglary on the victims, emphasizing the distress caused by having their home violated during the Christmas holidays. Jenkins' defense representation highlighted his homeless status and personal circumstances leading up to the offence.

The case has been adjourned for sentencing, with magistrates requesting pre-sentence reports to determine the most appropriate course of action, which could range from community-based rehabilitation programs to custodial sentences, given the nature of residential burglaries in the area.
