Homeowner threatened during shed burglary in Scarborough
Burglary and confrontation on Eden Drive
According to an article published on 31 May 2026 by Gazettelive, a homeowner was threatened with a knife after confronting two intruders at a property on Eden Drive in Scarborough. The incident occurred in the early hours of 6 December, when the occupant was alerted by barking dogs.
Upon investigating, the homeowner encountered Scott Watson, 37, and Lauren Shimells, 30, inside a garden shed. Watson emerged wielding a knife and issued verbal threats, forcing the resident to retreat. The pair subsequently moved to the front of the property, where further threats were made and a vehicle was damaged before the suspects fled on foot.
Following their arrest, both individuals pleaded guilty at York Crown Court. Watson was sentenced to two years in prison for possession of a bladed article and criminal damage. Shimells received a 28-day sentence and was released due to time already served on remand. Both were issued five-year restraining orders. North Yorkshire Police emphasized that knife crime will not be tolerated and noted Watsonโs history of similar offenses.
Ensure your garden structures are secured with high-quality locks and consider installing motion-activated lighting to deter unauthorized access.
