Homeowner with Concealed Carry License Shoots Intruder During Back of the Yards Break-In

A homeowner in Chicago's Back of the Yards neighborhood took defensive action early Saturday afternoon, shooting an armed intruder who attempted to break into their residence. The incident occurred in the 5200 block of South Loomis Boulevard, where authorities say a suspect forced entry into the home.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the homeowner, who possesses a valid Illinois Concealed Carry License (CCL), encountered the intruder inside the residence. Fearing for their safety, the homeowner drew a firearm and fired at the suspect, striking them. The intruder fled the scene but was located nearby by responding officers and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

Area Detectives are currently investigating the incident. The homeowner was not injured during the confrontation and is cooperating fully with law enforcement. No charges have been filed against the homeowner, as the shooting is currently being viewed as a case of self-defense under Illinois law.
