Homestead Man Arrested After Armed Burglary Triggers School Lockdown

HOMESTEAD, FL — A local school was placed on lockdown on Tuesday afternoon as Homestead police officers searched for an armed burglary suspect who fled on foot into a nearby residential area.

According to police, officers responded to a call regarding a residential burglary in progress. The suspect, who was reportedly armed, broke into a home and fled when confronted by the homeowner. Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement officials ordered a nearby school to be placed on a temporary lockdown to ensure the safety of students and staff while officers established a perimeter.

K-9 units and air support were deployed to assist in the search. The suspect was successfully located and taken into custody after a brief chase through backyards. The lockdown at the school was subsequently lifted, and no injuries were reported among the school community or residents.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including armed burglary, trespassing, and resisting arrest without violence.
