Householder Interrupts Active Burglary off Belfast's Malone Road

A burglary attempt was cut short in South Belfast after a householder caught an intruder red-handed inside their home off the affluent Malone Road. The incident has prompted police patrols to be stepped up in the surrounding residential areas.

According to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), the resident interrupted the burglar in the act, causing the suspect to make a hasty escape. Police quickly responded to the report and initiated a search of the immediate neighborhood, but the intruder had already fled. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage and seeking witnesses who may have observed suspicious individuals in the Malone Road area.

Detective Inspector Johnston remarked: “This was a distressing incident for the homeowner. We are appealing to anyone who may have noticed any unusual behavior, or who has dashcam or home security footage from the Malone Road or surrounding avenues between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Monday, to contact detectives.”
