Houston Home Invasion Suspect Fatally Shot After Wilcrest Park Apartment Victim Wrestles Gun Away

HOUSTON, Texas — A suspected intruder was shot and killed at an apartment complex in Houston's Wilcrest Park area after a victim managed to wrestle a gun away from him during a violent struggle, police said.

According to reports from the Houston Police Department, the incident occurred around 3:00 PM on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at an apartment complex located on Wilcrest Drive. The suspect reportedly forced his way into an apartment, confronting the resident inside with a handgun and demanding money and valuables.

Rather than complying, the victim fought back. A violent struggle ensued inside the apartment as the victim attempted to disarm the intruder. During the physical altercation, the victim successfully managed to gain control of the suspect's firearm. The victim then fired the weapon at the suspect, striking him at least once in the chest.

The suspect fled the apartment but collapsed in the courtyard of the complex. Paramedics arrived shortly after, but the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The resident sustained minor cuts and bruises during the struggle but did not require hospitalization. Homicide detectives are investigating the incident and will present the case to the Harris County District Attorney's Office, although initial indicators point toward a clear case of self-defense.
