Houston Police Officer Shot and Wounded While Responding to Active Home Invasion

HOUSTON, Texas — A tense situation unfolded in a Houston neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in a Houston Police Department (HPD) officer being shot and wounded while responding to a reported home invasion in progress.

According to HPD officials, the shooting occurred around 3:00 PM on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Officers were dispatched to a residence following a 911 call from a homeowner who reported that armed individuals were actively attempting to break into their house. Within minutes of arriving at the scene, responding officers were met with immediate gunfire from the suspects, sparking a chaotic exchange of shots.

During the shootout, one HPD officer was struck in the arm and torso. Fellow officers acted swiftly to pull the injured officer to safety and administer first aid before paramedics arrived. The officer was rushed to a local hospital, where medical staff confirmed that the wounds, while serious, were non-life-threatening. The officer is currently listed in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.

A massive law enforcement presence, including HPD’s SWAT team, K-9 units, and air support, descended on the area to locate the suspects, who fled the scene on foot immediately after the shooting. A perimeter was established, and nearby residents were advised to lock their doors and shelter in place. Investigators are currently gathering evidence from the scene, including surveillance footage from neighbors, to identify and apprehend the suspects.
