Intruder Breaks Into 101-Year-Old Man's Los Feliz Home as He Sleeps, Leaving Fedora Behind
The Los Angeles Police Department is searching for a burglar who broke into the home of a 101-year-old resident in Los Feliz while the elderly victim lay sleeping. The intruder, in an unusual twist, accidentally left behind a key piece of clothing: a fedora hat.
Quiet Night Interrupted in Los Feliz
The victim, a centenarian and long-time resident of the historic Los Feliz neighborhood, was asleep in his bedroom when the suspect gained entry to the home. The burglar proceeded to quietly ransack several rooms, searching for valuables, jewelry, and cash. Fortunately, the elderly homeowner slept through the break-in and was not physically harmed during the incident.
It was only the following morning that family members and caregivers discovered the residence had been disturbed and ransacked. Upon inspecting the property, they found items displaced and noticed a strange, dark fedora resting on a piece of furnitureโan item that did not belong to the victim or anyone in the household.
Fedora Becomes Central Clue in LAPD Investigation
LAPD officers responded to the scene and collected the fedora as evidence. Investigators are currently conducting forensic testing on the hat, hoping to retrieve DNA samples or fingerprints that could identify the suspect. Additionally, detectives are canvassing the neighborhood for security camera footage that might show a suspect wearing or carrying a fedora prior to the break-in.
"It is incredibly disheartening to see a vulnerable member of our community targeted in this manner," a family spokesperson shared. "We are just thankful he was not harmed, and we hope this hat leads police directly to the person who did this."
Local neighborhood watch groups have shared details of the incident, asking residents to remain alert and report any individuals acting suspiciously or scouting properties in the area.
