Intruding Ex-Partner Shot During Domestic Burglary in Terrace Village

PITTSBURGH, PA — A domestic dispute escalated to violence on New Year's Day when a man was shot while attempting to break into his ex-girlfriend's residence in Pittsburgh's Terrace Village neighborhood.

The incident occurred just after 10:00 p.m. on Monday, January 1, 2024. According to police reports, a female resident had recently ended her relationship with the male suspect. The man arrived at the home, ignored warnings, and forced entry by kicking in both the front and back doors.

Defensive Shooting Inside the Residence

Once inside, the intruder moved aggressively toward the woman. Fearing for her safety, the resident fired a handgun, striking the intruder. The wounded man immediately fled the residence, got into a vehicle, and drove away.

He abandoned his vehicle near the Duquesne University campus and subsequently arrived at UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition. Hospital staff notified authorities, who placed the suspect under arrest while he was receiving medical care. The suspect was held in custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant and faces new charges related to the home invasion burglary.
