โIt's disheartening.' West Hollywood business is hit by repeat break-ins
WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA โ A local business owner in West Hollywood is speaking out after their storefront was hit by a series of break-ins, calling the repeating cycle of property damage and theft "disheartening" as local retailers grapple with rising security costs and community concerns.
According to security footage and store management, the incidents occurred late at night, with suspects shattering glass doors to gain quick access to the cash register and high-value inventory. Despite having security cameras and alarm systems installed, the business has been targeted multiple times within the last few weeks, leaving the owner to cover high insurance deductibles and repairs.
A Frustrated Community
"Itโs disheartening to wake up in the middle of the night to another alarm call, knowing that your hard work has been trashed again," said the business owner, who wished to remain anonymous due to safety concerns. "We do everything rightโwe lock up, we leave the lights on, we have securityโbut it doesn't seem to stop them."
Local law enforcement at the West Hollywood Sheriffโs Station is currently investigating the incidents. Authorities are looking into whether a single burglary crew is behind the series of commercial break-ins along Santa Monica Boulevard and Melrose Avenue, or if the shop is being targeted by opportunistic thieves.
Call for Enhanced Security Measures
In response to the burglaries, nearby business owners are calling for increased police patrols and stronger local crime prevention measures. Many shops have begun boarding up windows overnight or investing in metal security gates, a visual change that some worry will affect the welcoming atmosphere of the neighborhood.
"We want to keep West Hollywood a safe and vibrant place to shop and work, but we need support," a neighboring business manager noted. "For small businesses, even a minor break-in can wipe out a week's worth of profit."
