Jefferson Park Business Strip Targeted in Overnight Commercial Burglaries
CHICAGO, IL โ Authorities are investigating a wave of overnight commercial burglaries that hit several storefronts in the Jefferson Park community on Chicago's Northwest Side.
The incidents, which took place near the intersections of Higgins Avenue, Foster Avenue, and Mulligan Avenue, targeted local food establishments, including Lazic Deli and The Sweet Cafรฉ. According to the Chicago Police Department, the break-ins occurred during the early morning hours when the businesses were closed. The suspects gained entry by smashing front windows and glass entry doors, leaving a trail of debris.
Once inside, the burglars ransacked the service counters and stole cash drawers. Investigators believe a single group of burglars may be responsible for the string of break-ins due to the matching entry methods and the proximity of the targeted locations. Area residents expressed surprise, noting that the corridor is typically quiet at night.
Police have requested that business owners along Higgins and Foster Avenues review their surveillance camera footage for any suspicious activity or unfamiliar vehicles parked near the storefronts during the night. No suspects are currently in custody, and local community associations are advising business owners to reinforce their security measures.
