Jewellery store robberies in Leicester and Market Harborough
Armed robberies target Leicestershire jewellery stores
According to an article published by Leicestermercury on 3 April 2026, a man has been sentenced to three years and two months in prison following a series of robberies targeting jewellery stores in Leicester and Market Harborough. Simon Harrald, 34, pleaded guilty to charges involving the theft of gold rings from businesses including H Samuel and Warren James.
Leicestermercury reports that the crime spree took place over several days in January. Harrald brandished an imitation 'Double Eagle' airgun and a folding pocket knife to threaten staff while snatching gold rings. The incidents occurred between January 21 and January 31, with Harrald returning to some locations during his spree. He also attempted to rob individuals at a store in Granby Street and in Market Harborough.
Following his arrest, Harrald pleaded guilty at Leicester Crown Court on March 30. The court ordered the destruction of the weapons used during the offences. Investigating officer Detective Constable Lauren Thacker noted that the incidents were particularly terrifying for the victims involved.
Business owners are encouraged to review their security protocols and ensure staff are trained in emergency response procedures to mitigate the risks posed by armed intruders.
