Kip's Toyland, LA's Oldest Toy Store, Burglarized for High-Value Lego Sets
LOS ANGELES, CA — Kip's Toyland, recognized as Los Angeles' oldest toy store, was targeted in an early morning burglary that has saddened both the owners and the local community. The historic establishment, located at the Original Farmers Market in the Fairfax District, was broken into by a thief who seemed to have a very specific target in mind.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the break-in occurred during the early hours of the morning when the suspect breached the store's entry. Once inside, the thief bypassed other vintage toys and specialty board games to focus almost exclusively on high-value Lego sets. Lego products, particularly rare collector editions and larger sets, have increasingly become high-target items for thieves due to their high resale value and ease of liquidity on online platforms.
Founded in 1945 by Kip Woodward, Kip's Toyland has been a beloved fixture of the community for over eighty years, surviving generations of economic shifts and urban development. The owners expressed their heartbreak over the violation of their historic space, noting the disruption to their daily operations. Security cameras captured footage of the suspect, and detectives are appealing to anyone with information about the incident or attempts to sell large quantities of Lego sets in the area to contact the LAPD.
