Lincoln Man Arraigned on Attempted Murder Charges After Office Depot Shooting

LINCOLN, Nebraska โ€” A 49-year-old Lincoln man has been arraigned in Lancaster County Court following a violent confrontation with law enforcement during an attempted burglary. Robert Bures appeared in court on March 6, 2026, to face multiple felony charges stemming from an officer-involved shooting at a local Office Depot.

The incident began in the early morning hours of February 25, 2026. Shortly after 1:30 a.m., Lincoln Police Officer Kirby Urbanek responded to a commercial alarm at the Office Depot located near 50th and R Streets. Upon inspecting the perimeter, the officer discovered Bures hiding inside a small access door near the store's loading dock area.

Suspect Fires at Responding Officer

According to investigators, when Officer Urbanek confronted Bures and issued verbal commands, Bures refused to comply. Instead, Bures threw a metal object at the officer and drew a 9mm handgun, firing a single round directly at him. Officer Urbanek returned fire, striking Bures in his lower extremities. Bures attempted to flee the scene on foot but was quickly apprehended by responding officers. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officer Urbanek was not injured and was placed on standard administrative leave pending the investigation.

Arraignment and Severe Charges

Following his release from the hospital, Bures was booked into the Lancaster County Jail. During his arraignment, prosecutors charged him with attempted first-degree murder, attempted burglary, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person (felon), use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of burglary tools, and using a deadly weapon to resist arrest. A judge set Bures' bond at 10% of $1,000,000. He remains in custody pending his next scheduled court appearance.
