Lincoln Park's Mr. Submarine Hit in Early Morning Commercial Burglary Spree

CHICAGO โ€” A commercial burglary at a beloved sub shop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood has left business owners on edge after a string of early-morning break-ins across the city.

The Chicago Police Department reported that the Mr. Submarine restaurant, located on Fullerton Avenue in Lincoln Park, was broken into early Thursday morning. According to investigators, the burglary occurred in the pre-dawn hours when suspects shattered the glass entry door to gain access to the premises.

Once inside, the burglars targeted the cash register and office area, attempting to locate cash and other valuables. The incident at Mr. Submarine was part of a rapid-fire sequence of crimes; police report that another business, the MONEYGUN bar on Lake Street in the West Loop, was burglarized just 20 minutes apart from the Lincoln Park location, suggesting a coordinated crew or a single group operating across multiple neighborhoods.

No employees were present at the time, and no injuries were reported. The owners of the Mr. Submarine location are currently working with law enforcement to determine the exact amount of cash stolen and the cost of property damage. The Lincoln Park community has seen a recent uptick in commercial burglaries, raising concerns among local merchants about security during overnight hours.

No suspects are currently in custody. Area Three detectives are investigating the break-in and looking into possible connections with other commercial burglaries reported in the area. CPD has urged business owners to secure safes, leave registers empty and open overnight, and ensure security cameras are functioning and visible.
