Louisville Police Investigating After Woman Fatally Stabbed Inside Fern Creek Home

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A quiet neighborhood in Fern Creek has been plunged into mourning and concern as the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) continues its active investigation into the death of 79-year-old Bettie Collins, who was found slain inside her home.

A Shocking Discovery in Fern Creek

On Monday, February 12, 2024, LMPD officers responded to a residence located in the 10000 block of Chenoweth Vista Way. Upon entering the home, officers discovered Collins, a beloved grandmother and long-time neighborhood resident, deceased. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that her death was caused by multiple stab wounds, ruling the case a homicide.

Community Resilience and Security Outreach

The tragedy has deeply affected the local community, particularly elderly residents who feel increasingly vulnerable. In the wake of the incident, community leaders and the LMPD organized outreach initiatives, including the distribution and installation of video doorbell cameras for senior citizens in the area. Local organizers emphasized the importance of community vigilance, urging residents to watch out for one another and report any suspicious activity.

Breakthrough in the Investigation

While the initially reported investigation sought tips from the public, police made a major breakthrough in March 2024. LMPD homicide detectives arrested 29-year-old Mark Rudolph in connection with Collins’ murder. Court documents revealed that investigators linked Rudolph to the crime scene through DNA evidence found on clothing and knives inside the victim's car. Rudolph now faces charges of murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, and tampering with physical evidence, and is being held at the Louisville Metro Corrections facility.
