Man arrested during burglary at South Side Chicago liquor store

CHICAGO (CBS) โ€” A man was taken into custody after police caught him in the act of burglarizing a liquor store on Chicago's South Side early Wednesday morning, June 5, 2024.

Responding to a commercial burglary alarm at approximately 3:00 a.m., Chicago police officers arrived to find signs of forced entry at the front of the business. Upon securing the perimeter, officers heard noises coming from within the dark building. A tactical search was initiated, and the suspect was located inside the store attempting to gather merchandise.

The suspect was arrested without incident. The owner of the establishment praised the rapid response of the officers, noting that the alarm system worked exactly as intended to prevent a major loss. Charges are currently pending against the individual, and Area One detectives are handling the investigation to determine if the suspect is linked to other recent burglaries in the area.
