Man Charged After Nottingham Officer Strangled in Radford Arrest
A Nottinghamshire police officer was choked and assaulted while attempting to apprehend a burglary suspect in a Radford shop, leading to serious charges against a local man.
The arrest followed a residential break-in reported on Sunday evening, 12 April 2026, on Ilkeston Road in Radford. A homeowner reported that an intruder had entered the flat, stealing items including clothing, a watch, and trainers. Using identification leads, officers tracked the suspect to a nearby shop the following day.
Officer Choked During Arrest
As officers approached the suspect to detain him, he reacted violently. The suspect struck one officer in the face and grabbed them around the throat. Despite the physical resistance and choking, officers successfully brought the suspect under control.
The suspect, Michael Roberts, 57, has been charged with burglary, assaulting an emergency worker, and intentional strangulation. He was remanded in custody by Nottingham Magistrates' Court and is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Crown Court in May.
"Our officers put themselves in harm's way to protect the community, but violence of this nature is completely intolerable," stated Nottinghamshire Police. "Burglary is a severe violation of personal security, and we will prosecute offenders to the fullest extent."
