Man shot and killed during armed robbery at Auburn Gresham liquor store

CHICAGO (ABC7) โ€” A violent armed robbery on New Year's Day has left a community in mourning after a man was fatally shot inside a liquor store in Chicago's Auburn Gresham neighborhood.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, at an establishment located on South Racine Avenue. According to the Chicago Police Department, armed suspects entered the store and demanded money. During the course of the robbery, gunfire broke out, striking Martinez Williams. Emergency services rushed Williams to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead due to his injuries.

Community activists and family members have gathered to call for justice and an end to the gun violence plaguing the city. Police detectives are searching for the suspects and asking anyone with security cameras in the vicinity of South Racine Avenue to review their footage from the time of the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing as Area Two detectives follow active leads.
