Motorbike Bandits Remain at Large Following Marlowes Smash-and-Grab in Hemel Hempstead
Detectives in Hemel Hempstead are appealing for urgent public assistance after a group of offenders mounted on motorbikes carried out a brazen smash-and-grab raid on the Marlowes, the town's main shopping thoroughfare. The suspects, who fled the scene before police arrived, remain at large.
The incident occurred during daylight hours when witnesses reported seeing several individuals on motorbikes pull up outside a commercial property in the busy shopping precinct. Armed with tools, the suspects shattered the storefront windows, snatched high-value items, and quickly sped away through pedestrianized zones, causing alarm among shoppers.
Hertfordshire Constabulary immediately deployed officers to the scene, and a containment area was established. Despite an extensive search of the surrounding area assisted by police units, the suspects managed to evade capture. Forensic officers have been examining the scene for DNA and fingerprint evidence, while detectives review local CCTV footage to trace the direction of travel of the getaway motorbikes.
A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Constabulary stated: "This was a highly reckless incident in a busy pedestrian area that could have easily resulted in injuries to members of the public. We are actively pursuing several lines of inquiry to identify the individuals involved. We urge anyone who was in the Marlowes area at the time, or who may have captured dashcam or mobile phone footage of motorbikes being ridden erratically, to get in touch immediately."
Business owners in the town centre have expressed growing concern over the audacity of the crime, calling for increased police presence. Anyone with information is asked to contact the non-emergency number 101, quoting the investigation reference, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
