Muncie man preliminarily charged with burglary after firing shot during apartment altercation

MUNCIE, Indiana — A local man faces preliminary charges of burglary and criminal recklessness after allegedly firing a gunshot during a heated confrontation inside a Muncie apartment building.

According to probable cause affidavits released by local authorities, the incident began as a verbal dispute between the suspect and the occupants of an apartment. The situation escalated when the suspect forced his way inside the residence, committing a burglary under Indiana law by entering the dwelling with the intent to commit a felony or assault therein. Once inside, the altercation turned physical, and the suspect drew a firearm, discharging at least one round.

Fortunately, the bullet did not strike anyone, and no major injuries were reported from the gunshot itself, though occupants sustained minor injuries from the physical scuffle. The suspect fled the apartment immediately after the shot was fired but was apprehended by Muncie police officers who responded to multiple emergency calls reporting shots fired.

The suspect was booked into the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges including residential burglary, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, and pointing of a firearm. The Delaware County Prosecutor's Office is reviewing the case to determine formal charges.
