Newton Mearns Burglary Victim Speaks Out After £100,000 Jewellery Raid Raises 'Asian Gold' Fears

An East Renfrewshire homeowner has raised the alarm over targeted burglaries after a devastating daytime break-in at their Meadowhill property in Newton Mearns. Over £100,000 worth of family gold and jewellery was stolen during the raid, which occurred on May 1, 2026, leaving the household severely shaken.

The incident occurred between 8:00 AM and mid-day when the homeowner was away. The perpetrators managed to gain entry and selectively stole high-quality gold heirlooms, including necklaces, earrings, and bangles, as well as a luxury Omega watch. Costume jewellery was left untouched, highlighting the calculated nature of the crime.

The victim believes the household was specifically targeted for its 'Asian gold' and expressed concern that South Asian families in Newton Mearns are being watched by organized gangs. Police officers investigating the scene reportedly informed the victim that dozens of similar gold-targeting break-ins have been recorded across the Greater Glasgow area this year.

Local authorities are investigating the theft and are keen to trace a red, black, and white Yonex sports bag that the suspects may have used to carry the stolen items. Residents are being encouraged to review their security setups, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious behavior or vehicles to the police immediately.
