North Side Businesses Targeted in Late-Night Commercial Burglary Spree
CHICAGO โ A coordinated late-night burglary spree targeted several local businesses on Chicago's North Side, leaving storefronts damaged and owners demanding stronger public safety measures.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the string of commercial break-ins occurred between midnight and the early hours of Friday morning. The burglars followed a similar pattern at each location, shattering front glass windows or glass doors to gain rapid entry, stealing cash registers, safes, and high-value merchandise, and fleeing before law enforcement could arrive on the scene.
Affected businesses span across multiple busy commercial corridors on the North Side. Local business owners described arriving in the morning to find police tape, shattered glass, and ransacked offices. "It is disheartening to see the hard work of our staff and community disrupted in a matter of minutes," said one store owner. The commercial corridors on the North Side have historically been hubs of vibrant small businesses, but recent sprees have heightened anxieties and prompted merchants to invest heavily in reinforced glass, roll-up security grates, and private security monitoring.
Chicago Police Department Area Three detectives are currently investigating the series of burglaries. Officers are collecting surveillance footage from the targeted businesses and surrounding intersections, searching for a possible connection to a single crew operating a getaway vehicle. No suspects have been arrested, and the investigation remains open.
