Overnight Spree: O'Neil's on Wells and Other Chicago Businesses Hit in ATM Burglaries

CHICAGO โ€” Chicago police are investigating a coordinated series of overnight burglaries that targeted automated teller machines (ATMs) at several commercial establishments across the city early Saturday morning. Business owners are left picking up the pieces after thieves smashed windows and forced entry to steal cash from the machines.

According to the Chicago Police Department, the break-ins occurred within hours of each other, suggesting a possible pattern or a single group of offenders moving quickly between neighborhoods. Among the targeted locations was O'Neil's on Wells, a popular pub located in the 100 block of North Wells Street in Chicago's Loop/River North area. Intruders shattered the front glass door of the establishment to gain access to the interior ATM.

Similar incidents were reported on the same night at a gas station in Chicago's Chinatown neighborhood and at a neighborhood bar in Lakeview. In each instance, the suspects used brute force to enter the premises, targeting the cash-dispensing machines before fleeing the scene in waiting vehicles.

Area detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from the targeted businesses and surrounding streets. No suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the total amount of cash stolen during the spree.
